New Caledonia Chapter, NSDAR, History
The New Caledonia Chapter, NSDAR, is located in Vancouver, BC, although members of our chapter live in many different communities throughout the Province of British Columbia. Our chapter was founded in 1988 in Kelowna, a pretty town surrounded by lakes, fruit orchards, and vineyards in the southern interior of BC. The Daughters forming the chapter had been members of the Heritage Chapter, NSDAR, in Calgary. New Caledonia Chapter, NSDAR, with Helen Stewart as the Organizing Regent, was the first chapter in British Columbia and the third chapter organized in Canada. In 2002, with declining membership, members voted to disband. Regent Alys Monod suggested meeting with members on the coast to explore the possibility of growing the chapter. With the Internet's availability as a tool, an organizational luncheon

was arranged in May 2004, attended by Susan Conger, Units Overseas (UO) Chairman, and Anna Harder, Western Canada UO Assistant Chairman. Susan and Anna had arranged a surprise legal transfer of the chapter charter effective that day, turning the organizational event into a celebration of re-chartering.
